The 1TB Barracuda 7200.14 boasts impressive peak sequential read/write Lab speeds of 195/193 MB/s. These best case burst speeds indicate what the Barracuda is capable of under Lab perfect test conditions. Our real world benchmarks have been sourced from hundreds of users and give a better sense of how well this drive actually performs on a day to day basis. The 1TB 7200.14 has an average UBM sequential read/write speed of 147 MB/s, which is a superb result, especially for a budget drive. With 4K random read/write speeds of 0.77/1.53 MB/s small file performance is also respectable making the 1TB Barracuda a very good all round performer. In terms of value for money the relatively small 1TB drive is not as good value as its larger 3TB sibling but in the 1 TB category this is one of the best value for money drives available. [Jan '14 HDrivePro]

The Samsung Spinpoint F3 is over four years old and one of the oldest drives that we have included in our group tests. The reason for its inclusion is that it was once one of the best hard drives available and we have seen more user benchmarks for this drive than any other. The price of this drive has fluctuated significantly over its epic four year life span and current prices do not reflect the great value for money that this drive once represented. In today's market the F3 struggles to keep up with the group leaders both in terms of performance and price. With an effective speed rating of 116 MB/s the F3 is one of the slowest 1TB drives in our group test. There are clearly newer and better alternatives available at this time. [Jan '14 HDrivePro]

Hard Drive Rankings (Price vs Performance) July 2017 HDD Rankings.

Welcome to our consumer Hard Drive comparison. We calculate effective speed which measures performance for typical consumers. Effective speed is adjusted by cost per GB to yield value for money. Calculated values don't always tell the whole picture so we check them against thousands of individual user ratings. The customizable table below combines these factors and more to bring you the definitive list of top HDDs. Share your opinion by voting. [HDrivePro]
