The Laptop (9.5mm) SSHD from Seagate has a 64MB Cache and like its younger sibling (Laptop Thin) comes equipped with 8GB of MLC NAND Flash. Apart from capacity and dimensions the specs for the two siblings are identical. At less than a year old the Laptop SSHD is relatively new, but like its smaller sibling its performance is unbalanced and favours small file IO. With average sequential speeds of 95 MB/s the Laptop SSHD lags the group leaders by over 50% at sequential IO. Small file 4K performance averages around 2 MB/s which is far better. Overall the Seagate Laptop SSHDs performance profile is skewed strongly towards small file IO. This, the 9.5mm 1TB version does represent better value for money than its smaller capacity 500GB sibling but neither of the drives are particularly strong sequential performers. [Jan '14HDrivePro]
