There is no doubt that the 1TB WD Raptor this is one of the fastest mechanical drives you can buy, however ... an SSD offers orders of magnitude better performance. In terms of price, the class leading 1TB Samsung 840 Evo costs around £360 vs. £185 for the Raptor. An economical approach would be to spend £130 on a blazingly fast budget SSD and £50 on a 1TB Seagate 7400.14. You would end up with 1.25TB for £180, the same price as a Raptor. Unless you need a full TB in one physical drive, the combination of SSD+1TB regular fixed drive makes a lot more sense. Even if prices for the Raptor dropped by around 50% it would still make little sense in today's market and with SSD prices continuing to march lower it's just a matter of time before the Raptor once again faces extinction... [Mar '14 HDrivePro]

Excellent

Some parts of this HDD perform outstandingly, while some other parametres have been surpassed by newer WD Black models. Still a very good HDD to use in 2017.

Spin way faster than normal mainstream drives but now not worth the price and you can get 1TB NVMe SSD for similar prices. Still excellent nonetheless if you have it.

Good

This is one of the fastest fixed hard drives you can buy. Despite costing almost 3x as much as a regular 1TB hard drive it is still significantly cheaper, but far less performant, than an SSD.

Review  www.tomshardware.com/...

A great review covering all the basics and explaining exactly where this drive lies relative to both competing regular hard drives and and SSD's.

One of the fastest spinning HDD that's available on market, while 10k RPM obviously have higher R/W speed compared to other HDD, regular users are advised to opt for SSD or 7.2k RPM HDD instead.

Good

Great deal for the right price but no reason to get one with SSD drives out now

Good

The last of a breed, 10k drives used to be king back in the hard drive days. Still good as a non-OS/game drive, but SSD are much better deals nowadays, unless you got this for nostalgia like i did =D.
