These best case burst speeds indicate what the Barracuda is capable of under Lab perfect test conditions. Our real world benchmarks have been sourced from hundreds of users and give a better sense of how well this drive actually performs on a day to day basis. The 1TB 7200.14 has an average UBM sequential read/write speed of 147 MB/s, which is a superb result, especially for a budget drive. With 4K random read/write speeds of 0.77/1.53 MB/s small file performance is also respectable making the 1TB Barracuda a very good all round performer. Just bought a new fresh ST1000DM003 and there was a failure(bad sector). Took a replacement and hoping it'll last long. My last 1TB have 360 days+ PowerOn and still working fine.

Good for media storage but not recommended for system or game storage as the random read write performance is poor. Would recommend WD Blue for those systems as it performs 56% better in 4k but only about 8% slower in sequential read and write

Came as the system drive in my old HP Pavilion in 2011, now relegated to bulk storage on my Ryzen build. Been used almost continually since then with regular backups to make sure no data loss occurs. However, this ancient drive shows no sign of failure (touch wood) and just keeps on ticking! Obviously long since superseded but as far as drives go mine has been excellent.

Great value for money , although in 2021 paying only £30 more for a reasonable ssd should be fine . Good for mass storage .

Been using it for 6 years never had any failure. Power-on hours is more than 11k and it still performs exactly the same as when it was first installed in my PC.

well working, ultra reliable and affordable 1TB HDD for the time. I have gotten this HDD in 2012 so 11 years ago by now and took it over from my old build to my new one. After being through 4058 device power cycles and 1542 days in power on hours it still works without any issues.
