This is the latest version of Western Digital's mid-range Blue drive. At only one year of age this drive is relatively new and the performance figures reflect this. With maximum sequential speeds of 180 MB/s (both read and write) the Blue is amongst the faster drives currently available and in terms of real world performance it beats its predecessor the 2010 Blue (WD10EALS) by around 18%. The 2012 Blue has a single 1TB platter which combined with its 7200 rotation speed allows for above average performance across the board. In terms of value for money a larger capacity drive will nearly always be a better choice but within the 1TB category as a system drive, the 2012 Blue is a very reasonable, if not the best, option. [Jan '14 HDrivePro]

This drive I feel is very solid. While not fast enough to capture 1080p 60fps video (with Fraps), it is a definite upgrade over my WD caviar green (WD10EADS). —Sep '14

when i got hdd it had an error (The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error) while i wanted to open files on it. i put it on warranty and got back new one and has the same error sometimes.

One of the greatest HDDs money can buy. It's cheap, relatively fast and has a nice amount of space, it's pretty basic but it's still nowadays a greato ption for a budget build.

£35 is insanely cheap . This is really good and reliable for bulk storage . If you are looking for something of higher quality I'd recommend spending a small bit extra for an ssd .

Luckily there's a lot of competition between WD and Seagate or else the price wouldn't be as low as it is. Expect prices to drop for HDD's continuously over the next several months as SSD's become more superior. I've had this in countless builds, never fails.

A little more expensive than the seagate 1tb, but it might be worth it for you. It has better random writes than the seagate alternative. The seagate alternative has better read/write speeds. This also might be a little more reliable than the seagate one.
