This is Seagate's most recent hard drive and their first 4TB consumer offering. With a rotational speed of just 5,900 RPM it's significantly slower than the 7,200 RPM Barracudas that it supersedes. The lower rotational speed results in approximately 10% slower sequential transfer speeds and longer access times which make this drive less suitable for use as a system drive. With peak 4k read/write speeds of 0.76/1.2 MB/s the 4TB HDD.15 lags the group leaders significantly. The HDD.15 is a far better candidate for use in a NAS (Network Attached Storage) where factors such as power consumption and cost per GB are more important than outright speeds. To conclude, the HDD.15 has a relatively disappointing small file 4K performance profile but it does offer a huge amount of storage at a very competitive price which makes it a good candidate for use in a NAS. [Aug '13 HDrivePro]

I have two of them running two and three years and still running fine.

Despite all of that age, this HDD still proves to be great even today thanks to lower price than the competitor (WD Blue 4TB (2015)) while offering nearly similar performance (many users shouldn't be caring for HDD speed while building their new computer though).

As what IDN-User (actually mine before i registered here), this HDD is still a great purchase thanks to lower prices compared to other competing 4TB HDD (need some more confirmation though). Hardly ever cared about HDD speed unless at certain circumstances.

 Frequently Asked Questions

 Best User Rated

Why does UserBenchmark have a bad reputation on reddit?
Marketers operate thousands of reddit accounts. Our benchmarks expose their spiel so they attack our reputation.
Why don’t PC brands endorse UserBenchmark?
Brands make boatloads on flagships like the 4090 and 14900KS. We help users get similar real-world performance for less money.
Why don’t youtubers promote UserBenchmark?
We don't pay youtubers, so they don't praise us. Moreover, our data obstructs youtubers who promote overpriced or inferior products.
Why does UserBenchmark have negative trustpilot reviews?
The 200+ trustpilot reviews are mostly written by virgin marketing accounts. Real users don't give a monkey's about big brands.
Why is UserBenchmark the gold standard for users?
Instead of pursuing brands for sponsorship, we've spent 13 years publishing real-world data for users.
